Friday, July 23, 2010 THE BRAND NEW SINGLE..OUT NOW! Our Very Dear Friends,
This is the news:
On Monday, this Monday 26th July, our absolutely brand new song "The Coolest Names in Showbiz" will be formally released, much in the way that an adolescent leopard, rescued from certain doom as a tiny baby & reared by a team of dedicated experts, is released back into the wild. Will it thrive? Will it grow strong in the treacherous jungle of radio playlists? Or will it be killed & eaten almost instantly by the large, pregnant lioness of public indifference?
Well YOU can help. For only 79 pence you can help to ensure its survival until perhaps it will become a top predator within the territory.
What we mean by this is "Download it from the following places & let it become the soundtrack of your summer:"

In quest of candlelighters. well, some matches would do. It's dark. We Dickensian types prefer the flickering shadows of some greasy candle stubs, the smell of coal & the sound of relentless tubercular coughing coming from the cellar to watching the Graham Norton show on an oversized telly. Must televisions grow ever wider as they become ever slimmer? Soon the average telly will be delicate & slender as a Crepe Suzette, yet the faces on the chat shows will appear before our sofas vast as king-sized duvets, cosmetically enhanced nostrils big as buckets, glossy white teeth like the tiles of a public toilet, laughing & chatting, laughing & chatting, over & over & over again, their giant voices surrounding us entirely in a cloak of mindless anecdotal hell.. Er, anyway, I digress.
Dearest Friends,
We have two wonderful west country gigs to tell you about.
The first, in the Devonshire Village of Bradninch on this Friday June 11th, will find us playing a spookier, stripped down sort of a set for the Bradninch Festival in their Guildhall. It costs £9 for an evening of musical exotica of one sort or another, one sort being Flipron. Learn a little more at this address: www.bradninchevents.org/Friday2010.aspx
Secondly, at the Raglan Arms in Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday 19th June, we will be playing a longer set enrobed in the delicious & heady aromas of their excellent ales & ciders. You can find out all the details of how to get there at www.myspace.com/theraglanarms
& if you haven't yet seen the video to our forthcoming single "The Coolest Names in Showbiz", you can watch it here www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIHFvKiE8D0 Ideally on the MOST RIDICULOUSLY LARGE SCREEN you can!
Take care. Love from FLIPRON X
Monday, May 24, 2010 Where is the summer, the unimaginable Zero summer? It's right here. Had you not noticed?
But anyway, our new single, The Coolest Names in Showbiz, is visible as it is audible in what the modern media call a "pop promo", or a video to the likes of you & me.
In it we prance about, showing off & enjoying ourselves. We tie Jesse to a chair & cut his hair off. The song itself is about sacrificing an easy life to discover a greater life you may be capable of living. In spite of this grand sentiment we wanted the song to have a sound that was something a little like Madness playing the Grange Hill Theme. Something that was very much a Flipron song, but one which your Granny would be happy dancing to at your cousin's wedding. Sacrifice? At any rate we sacrificed Jesse's hair for the greater good of the video.
We recorded the video for a Zero budget, the unimaginable zero budget (almost) (OK. £80). A good, kind, decent sort of a man called Alex Heath shot it & edited it for nothing, because he is generous as well as hard working & talented. We are proud to call him our friend.
We invite you to watch it & if you enjoy it, watch it again & suggest it to those you know who may enjoy it. Or if you know someone who badly needs a haircut, forward it to them as a rather ungraceful hint. "All shall be well and All manner of thing shall be well"
It's right here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIHFvKiE8D0

Dear Friends,
Our year is beginning to take shape. It has legs, a fat little body, a rudimentary tail & a sort of lump at the front which we think may be an emerging head. Place your imaginary stethoscopes to the warm fat belly & lo! -The ticking of a tiny clock.
We are in the midst of rehearsals for a brand new single which is to be recorded in mid March & released in late June supported by a UK tour. We are currently booking summer festivals & gigs in the UK & autumn dates in the US & in Germany. We'll post up everything when it's confirmed.
Tomorrow we're playing the Vic in Swindon, a friendly venue serving delicious beer. Later in the month we'll be playing with the Beat (the English Beat if you're in the US) & then in March a gig with Hayseed Dixie! Peruse our gig listings for details.
Finally, if you'd like to see some live footage of us at our recent London PRS sponsored gig interspersed with an interview with the band (well, mostly Jesse talking very loudly, Joe mumbling, Mike & Mark silent & mostly looking bored but punctuating proceedings with occasional smirks) then paste this into your browser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cF5Jrd59rA0

Wednesday 13th January: Dear Friends,
We are very sorry to say that due to adverse weather conditions Flipron will not be playing at tonight’s gig in Hoxton. The gig is STILL ON with Bobby Long & the Spivs, but we will not be there. Have a lovely time if you’re going, but please go safely!

Wednesday, November 04, 2009 Briefly
Dearest friends, A quickie, but without all the indignity that such a word usually conjures: This Monday 9th November, we’re performing at the infamous & wonderful Hungamunga club night, (named in honour of the Flipron song). This will be at a nightspot called PROUD CAMDEN, in the South Gallery. Address is The Horse Hospital Stables Market Chalk Farm Road Camden Town NW1 8AH We’ve negotiated a special price of only £6 entry. A bargain, n’est pas? Do come if you’re Londonish. We PROMISE a night to remember. Take care, love Flipron
13th October
Dear Friends,
A short note, hoping, with delicate concision, to reach the receiving apparatus of your wonderfully formed brains.
Firstly, on Thursday, in London our PRS sponsored performance at the Gibson Guitar Studio, 29-35 Rathbone Place, W1, will be early. At 7.45pm to be exact. Doors are at 6.30pm. If you are intending to come please know that it is now too late to request tickets, so only those who have already handed over their names will be enjoying admittance. Please arrive as early as possible, as space will be very tight.
Secondly, we venture northward, like gentle Vikings in a van heading the wrong way, with no plans to plunder any monasteries, but rather to play songs at the Puzzle Hall in Sowerby Bridge on Saturday October 17th, thence to Leeds on Sunday 18th for further merriment at the Northern Monkey. Perhaps not as much like Vikings as first suggested.
With that in mind, we were wondering if any of our wonderful friends who live within modest striking distance of either Sowerby Bridge or Leeds might have shelter for four weary travellers on Saturday night. We have sleeping bags & are almost house-trained. There would be guest list, presents & genuine gratitude for any who would welcome us to their hearth.
We’re looking forward to it all anyway!
Love from Flipron
21st September 2009 Dearest friends,
We’ve had a nice calm, quiet summer of devious plotting. Some of dastardly schemes didn’t quite work out as planned, whilst others are taking their unsettling shapes rather well. All in good time. In the meantime we have four little gigs, each special in its own way.
Firstly, in the ancient Roman spa town of Bath, we’ll be playing at Moles on Saturday September 26th. We’re onstage 11.30ish. This is cheaper to get in before 10.30.
Secondly, on Thursday October 8th, we’ll be at the 12 Bar in Swindon. Swindon is a much more pleasing place to spend an evening than you might think. You could give it a try.
Next, but by no means last, a London gig. Not just any old London gig. Some of the big cheeses at PRS for Music have been wondering if we, FLIPRON, are almost famous. Having decided firmly that we are, they have generously decided that they are going to sponsor a very special gig for us on Thursday October 15th, at the Gibson Guitar Studios, 29-35 Rathbone Place, London W1. It’s just off Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road end. This gig is to be called, enticingly enough, “PRS for Music presents Almost Famous.” What this sponsorship means for you my friends, is that this gig will be FREE to get into. Yes, completely FREE! To get yourself onto the guest list, please email your name or names to: prsformusicevents@prsformusic.com They won’t reply to you straightaway, but when they have the guest list organized, they’ll mail you back with a confirmation. No tickets on the night, only your name on the list will work. We’re looking forward to seeing old friends & new.
Lastly, dare we say it? A foray into the North Country? Yes, we’re playing at the Puzzle Hall in Sowerby Bridge in Yorkshire on October 17th.
Take care. Love from FLIPRON X
Wednesday, September 16, 2009 US tour Hello folks, we're really sorry to tell you that the US tour in October will now not be happening. This is entirely down to changes in our funding plans. We're quite aware that a lot of you have made travel plans, bought air tickets etc, & we're ever so sorry to let you down & of course disappointed not to be playing, meeting you all, eating chilli dogs on the corner, scouring the thrift shops for old rodeo outfits, & trying to stop Yogi Bear from stealing our picnic in Jellystone park. We've made some good friends whilst planning this tour & we want to repay everybody's enthusiasm with a visit next year. So what's happening then? If we wait for a few months, we will be in a much stronger position to secure some robust financial support & a stronger & easier visa application. So there is plenty for us to be getting on with & plenty to look forward to. Love to you all, Flipron x
Monday, June 15, 2009 Rope Boy to the Rescue Dearest friends,
We have a little announcement. On our recent tour some of you may have noticed that our bass player was a somewhat shorter than he was before. Well, the truth is that we had three different bass players helping out on that tour when we found ourselves without a bottom end:
The spirited & generous Ron McElroy, guitarist & front man with Wheels Of Fortune who helped us out for a Brighton gig at very short notice indeed;
The meticulous & gifted John Thompson, who played two extraordinary & note perfect gigs with us in Nottingham & Northampton;
& dear old Mark Wingfield, the Flipron bass player from our first two albums, who played the rest of the tour with us as if he’d never been away. Indeed, so comfortable did he make himself in our little Flipron tour van that we invited him to stay for ever, because we love him so much.
Thanks also to those of you who kindly offered your four stringed services to the Flipron cause, your enthusiasm was a tonic.
So that’s the news - our new bass player is our old bass player -OR- our old bass player is our new bass player, depending on which hemisphere you find yourself peering out from… He’s the one with the beard anyway.
Take care. Love from FLIPRON X
